This is a series of watercolours that I expect will continue to grow with time. After all, the subject matter is completely fascinating and almost endless!
FRILLED NECKED LIZARD
Australian Frilled Necked Lizard

BLUE TONGUED LIZARD
Eastern Blue Tongue Lizard
Blue-tongued lizards are the largest members of the skink family. Skink lizards have overlapping scales that are usually smooth and contain small plates of bone. When threatened, blue-tongues turn towards the threat, open their mouth wide and stick out their broad blue tongue that contrasts vividly with the pink mouth. This display, together with the large size of the head, may frighten off predators. If the threat does not go away, blue-tongues may hiss and flatten out the body, making themselves look bigger.

TASMANIAN DEVIL
Australian Tasmanian Devil
Symbolic of Australia is its unique eco-system and wildlife. In recent years the wild population in Tasmania has suffered from a facial tumour, which spread like wildfire, due to their common biting behavior, even infecting captive populations across Australia. Thankfully an inoculation was eventually developed from a very few individuals who demonstrated an immunity to the tumour. The Tasmanian Devil population is expected to recover.

REDBACK SPIDER
Redback Spider
The redback spider (Latrodectus hasselti), also known as the Australian black widow, is a highly venomous spider found throughout Australia, Southeast Asia and New Zealand. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, the widow spiders. The adult female is easily recognised by her spherical black body with a prominent red stripe on the upper side of her abdomen and an hourglass-shaped red/orange streak on the underside. Females usually have a body length of about 10mm, while the male is much smaller, being only 4mm long.

PLATYPUS
Platypus
The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), sometimes referred to as the duck-billed platypus, is a semiaquatic, egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia and Tasmania. The platypus is the sole living representative or monotypic taxon of its family (Ornithorhynchidae) and genus (Ornithorhynchus), though a number of related species appear in the fossil record. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. Like other monotremes, it senses prey through electrolocation. It is also one of the few species of venomous mammals, as the male platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers venom capable of causing severe pain to humans. The unusual appearance of this egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal baffled European naturalists when they first encountered it and the first scientists to examine a preserved platypus body (in 1799) judged it a fake, made of several animals sewn together!
